We cover a wide range of applications with our laser systems:
Our SodiumStar guide star lasers are instrumental in astronomical research, and have been for over 10 years. Increasingly, laser guide stars are becoming an integral part of space observations outside of astronomy, for space debris monitoring and space situational awareness. Together with adaptive optics systems, our guide star lasers help get clearer images of space.
Guide star lasers can also be used for uplink correction of free-space optical communications between Earth and satellites, an increasingly important part of global connectivity. To complement the guide star lasers for this application, we recently introduced EYRIS, our optical amplifier designed for integration in optical ground stations – ready for the future of communications with space.
Other applications include atmospheric research, where the interaction of our lasers with atmospheric sodium is used to learn more about our atmosphere.
The Sodium Guide Star technology provides a well collimated, high-quality laser beam to efficiently excite Na D2-line fluorescence in an atmospheric sodium layer of the mesosphere at 90 km altitude (for details see system Parameter). The resulting sodium fluorescence appearance serves day and night for the following purposes:
